What is your daily intake?

What is your daily intake of common violence? There are many factors that contribute to today's violence. Some that I believe to be the leading causes are video games, the Internet, movies and cliques at school. Video games are becoming more violent by focusing on shooting each other and killing the "bad guys". If there is not supervision on what a young child is playing there is a strong chance that they will be endured in a video game based on killing each other. Seeing such graphic murders have become second nature to them. With the use of Internet anybody has access violent related sites. Something as "harmless" as Facebook is now home of daily bullying, Youtube is now a site where anyone can watch beatings or post hate stories. Many movies have become increasingly aggressive and graphic. There are many war related movies that are very educational but for a young child it is inappropriate. Cliques at school are becoming more and more judgemental. If you are not part of the "popular" group many feel that they are inferior. Through daily "images" of violence bullying has become a common site in a North American school. I feel that violence can become more controlled through the use of supervision and rules for younger children.

Dynamic Duo!

What a hit!...and I am not talking baseball. The movie "Of Mice and Men" directed by Gary Sinise is following the adventures and mishaps of two friends who are trying to reach their American dream while finding work in the Great Depression. Through the troubles and laughs of George Milton and Lennie Small this heart warming movie has a solid message that will reach many viewers.

George Milton, played by Gary Sinise, has many "layers" through out the movie that make you want to keep watching. At first he is you typical guy, the one who is pushing his way through life and not giving "much of a damn about it." Then we see the spark of his relationship with Lennie; making fun of him, getting annoyed and dragging him around from one work place to another. Through out the movie George develops into a deeper character that the audience will begin to respect. Sinise does a great job of showing the elements of true friendship. He takes care and watches out for Lennie no matter how hard it gets, showing just how caring he truly is.

John Malkovich plays a very lovable character named Lennie who you can't help but fall in love with. He is mentally disabled but carries the heart of a friendly giant. Malkovich does an excellent job of portraying how someone with a mental handicap functions on a daily basis. He shows the emotions of a four year old by not having any pre-decided judgments on any one. Lennie also displays the hardships one has to face when working on a ranch with a disability. Through out the film many of the characters find a friend in Lennie for he is always there to listen.

The director had a good eye on how to portray the characters to the audience. The way he got them to read their lines and the movement across the scenes flowed together to create a real life situation that was very believable. One aspect the director should have focused on more was the final scene. The suspense did not build up enough for the drastic ending that was about to occur. If the gun got shown before it was shot it would let the audience know what was going to happen before hand leaving us on the edge of our seats waiting to find out weather or not it was going to happen.

What would happen if I was Teleporter?

Even as a child I always dreamed of having abilities that I knew I was incapable of acquiring. Yet still as a young adult I still come back to the simplistic idea of being able to travel the world within a blink of an eye. The ability I wish to still attain is teleporting! It could be used for multiple purposes like saving the world as well as personal adventures. If someone was in trouble I could be to their rescue in the blink of an eye. Or to the streets of Paris shopping for the afternoon, if I wished. If I was cold I could simply go to Hawaii for a quick break or to the movie store if I was board. What ever I choose? The option is completely up to me! Although, with a power such as this one could get over excited and use it in the wrong ways. What if I was getting in trouble...well I could simply just leave to where ever I wish. This "problem" would continue to spiral downwards until I hit rock bottom. Making me wonder if it truly is worth it? It is very tempting but in the end I think I could do without it. It would be hard to give it up at first but I would get used to the “normal” life of walking or taking the car.
